Rosa wanted Sammy and Sarah to be adopted in the United States of America. When Sammy arrived in the U.S., he only knew a few words like “Coca Cola” and “yes”, and “no." Sammy and Sarah had counselors and they showed them New York. Sammy loved the Empire State Building . In New York, Sammy and Sarah lived in a temporary holding home Soon Sammy got adopted, and Sarah did, too, but to different families.

Conclusion: Samuel R., Harris is a Holocaust survivor. He was very young when he went to a ghetto in the Holocaust. When he was in these concentration camps and ghettoes, he never gave up. He kept trying and is now a Holocaust survivor. He dedicates the rest of his life to the people who died in the Holocaust.
Special thanks to Samuel R Harris. You must have had a lot of courage to get through the ghettos and concentration camps. You taught me how hard it was for all the people that were in these ghettos and concentration camps.

Sam began to live with his adopted family in Chicago on April 10, 1948 (Harris 71). What he brought with him was a pair of white mice and very little clothing (Harris 71). His new parents were really nice (Harris 68). Sam thought his knew mother was very beautiful (Harris 69). At his new home he locked up everything about his past in his mind.
Sammy began a new school. He was put in the sixth grade at Crestwood in Northbrook, Illinois (Harris 74). At this new school, Sammy participated in many activities; his favorite was Boy Scouts (Harris 74). Two years later he became a Life Scout (Harris 74). When he graduated, Sammy won the American Legion Award (Harris 74). In 1954, Sam started high school (Harris 74). He went to New Trier for high school (Harris 74). Eventually he went to Orin Well College in 1958 (Harris 75). Everything he did, he did well.
Sammy married a woman named Dede (Harris 75). They had two children David and Julie (Poland Harris 75). For a long time Dede knew that Sam was not telling her something. She was trying to get Sam to tell her (Harris 76). Finally, he told her about the Holocaust. He opened up and told her all the memories he had locked away (Harris 76). Sam told her that he was a Holocaust survivor (Harris 76). Eventually, Sam and his family went to Israel and Europe (Harris 77). Sam wanted his family to go to Germany, also (Harris 77). However, he did not want his children to hate German people.
In 1981 Sam and his family went to the world gathering of Holocaust Survivors (Harris 77). At first he did not want to go, but he decided he should go. He was going with his family. A while later Sam decided he wanted to face his fears and go back to Poland (Harris 85).
When Sam got to Poland, he was led by a tour guide who showed Sammy and his family where Sammy had lived as a child (Harris 87). His house, however, had been destroyed (Harris 87). Sammy also went to see where the Jews had been beaten him (Harris 87). He also toured his grandparents’ farm in Colna (Harris 93). As a boy, he had gone to his grandparents’ house on holidays (Harris 93).
After visiting Europe, Sam came back to the U.S, wanting to devote the rest of his life to the million of victims who died during the Holocaust (Harris 93). Since then, he has been very involved with the Illinois Holocaust Museum (Harris 96). Because the Illinois Holocaust Museum is overcrowded, Sam and others are building a new Holocaust Museum (Harris 97). Sam is the chaperone of the development of the new museum (Harris 97), which will be in Skokie, Illinois (Harris 98). Today, Sam speaks in schools, churches, and city halls about his survival of the Holocaust.
